Oscar de la Renta Monochrome

In a complicated world, trends are all over the place. As we come into 2017, it seems we are madly in love with the new prints popping up on the runways this season. The most loved graphic is the monochrome design. Designers like Charlotte Olympia, Louis Vuitton, and Kurt Geiger London are applying this pattern into their latest collection for January.

If you’re like me and love this new hot fashion trend but don’t know where to start pulling it off? Don’t worry, apply the monochrome or tonal colour rule to a batch of printed patterns. Polka dots, stripes, chequerboard, when approached with one palette the combination can be endless.

There’s something reassuring about clean, simple black-and-white, especially when it’s organized logical stripes, grids, and figure flattering vertical planes. The look is modern, chic, and assertive-but never in your face-and shines of pure elegance.

It’s incredible how this trend has caught on so smoothly: it’s easy to wear, adaptable, comfortable and very much on point in fashion terms. As well as being ultra-stylish in a sizzling colour combination, the little details is what makes this trend iconic.

HOW TO TACKLE THIS PRINT: When wearing this print, introducing another colour to the mix would lessen the impact. Go with minimal accessories and keep your look very polished and simple. As Oscar de la Renta did with his gowns, choose a dress with the monochrome print! It will look beautiful while being highly versatile in your wardrobe. Shoes can be classic black, white, or a mix of the two.

For me I picked a dress that was timeless, soft, flattering, and very fun. It reminded me of an Audrey Hepburn style selection, mixed with vintage influences while still being current. My black suede blocked heels are comfortable while still giving off a dressed up appearance. Instead of a traditional coat, I opted for an edgier look by throwing on a leather biker jacket. I love this Parisian cool look and I think it is a more upbeat way to dress for any late night occasion.

For makeup with this style, don’t be tempted to do a dramatic effect. Makeup should do nothing more than highlight your features, brows, bone structure, and lips (keep it simple people).

What’s black, white and French all over? Not a newspaper but the monochrome trend with some uptown flavour, that’s what. Make sure there are no grey areas in your wardrobe with my pick of the best mono fashion buy to start your 2017 on a high note.
