Lipstick by Lisa Eldridge in Skyscraper Rose

Move Me by Mura Musa ft. Octavian

Lisa Eldridge makes lipsticks, she wrote a book about the history of makeup, she makes jewellery and she just so happens to be a makeup artist for the stars. Let me put it simply she likes everything I like, which over the years has made me into a low-key fangurl. Yeah, I have been for a long time so, when I was late to hearing and actually missed, yes missed her launch of red lipsticks - I have no shame in saying I was thoroughly gutted and taken aback from the experience so much that I vowed that if she was to ever release a lipstick again, I would indeed purchase one. Well, fate made her launch a new round of exciting lipsticks for spring - all pink inspired - and honest to my gut, I managed to snap Skyscraper Rose before it flew out of the stock (see the picture below).

Now if you don't know who Lisa Eldridge is *gasps* ... no worries you can be better informed by reading her blog/website and watching her videos. She is a professional makeup artist who is not only a sea of knowledge but endearing, positive and a self-confessed beauty nerd. When it comes to beauty opinions I definitely value and respect not only her opinion, the looks she creates but, the sheer passion she has for her work. So when I watched her most recent video where she passionately showcased the beautiful shade no.3 (which I do want by the way) and her inability to put it in the collection because she deemed the formula was not perfect enough for her consumers - I was sold. Much more, if you're looking for youtube videos or a blog, where you are literally learning from the industries best, you need not look any further.

Needless to say, this post will be my initial thoughts on the lipstick since I literally received it today. I will try my best to update my thoughts in a month or two but for now, it is what it is.

Shipping

Shipping is free for items over £75 in the UK - otherwise its £2.95 for 2-5 day delivery or £4.95 for 1-2 days. Since I'm not made of money and although I really wanted to try 3 - I bought one lipstick and paid the £2.95. It took 3 days to get to me which is great if you ask me and it came in a sturdy white box, neatly wrapped in tissue paper by Madalina (thanks!) and with my invoice. From what I've seen her website basically ships everywhere sans Russia and Brazil (sorry). I really like how clean, simple and well thought out the package was, it wasn't too bulky, it's not garish and felt like a breath of fresh air.

Packaging
Well thought out and beautiful. I feel like this is a lipstick bullet for lipstick lovers. It has all the main features of a classically beautiful lipstick that those who can spot quality will value. It's not something you will feel embarrassed you carried around in 10 years or have to modify for your purse. It's very womanly. Anyone who has cultivated a taste for vintage makeup will most likely really appreciate the aesthetics. Plus, it has a satisfying magnetic closure which assures me the cap will not simply fall off and ruin your bag and waste your lipstick.

It was really hard to choose which shade I was going to purchase as I very much wanted to see how they all would pan out but I eventually went with a "safe" option of a bright vivid pink and it did not disappoint. I love the way it looks on each of the models which she uses routinely to showcase shades. The lipstick is really bright and is more a reddy pink than a plummy pink on me. I think its beautiful and judging by the swatches works well with a variety of skin tones.

Formula
Scent: Has no scent (designed that way) which can be pleasant because sometimes it's nice to just smell like you're perfume or yourself and not some powdery vanilla cupcake.
Application: The first ingredient is dimethicone which is a silicone - this means that the lipstick is ultra smooth and doesn't drag on the lips.
Pigmentation: Very pigmented - since its dimethicone based it can be applied softly and built up in colour - feathers out nicely to create a blush-lipped effect or an impactful block of colour. It can leave a light stain but the stain can also be removed completely. Great if you don't want to commit to a bold lip and then end up having to because of a stain.
Feel: Soft, smooth, weightless, not too powdery in texture and weirdly moisturising.
Longevity: I have yet to test this ...

Lisa Eldridge Insanely Saturated Lip Colour in Skyscraper Rose
Ingredients: Dimethicone, Octyldodecanol, Polyethylene, Polysilicone-11, Nylon-12, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bis-Peg-12 Dimethicone, Beeswax, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Stearalkonium Bentonite, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Propylene Carbonate, Dicalcium Phosphate, Laureth-12, Pentaerythrityl Tera-DI-T-butyl Hydroxycinnamate, Mica, Tin Oxide. May Contain: [+/-] Titanium Dioxide (CI 778941) Red 6, Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)].
Made in Italy
Expiration: 18 months

Price: £26.00 - Pricey but not the most expensive lipstick out there especially considering her extensive experience and background in makeup. Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are similarly priced but, its nowhere near the price of Pat McGrath lipsticks (which I really would like but at £36 pounds I'm going to have to sit down and think it through). I bought this as a treat for myself and I intend to use this quite regularly to make up for the cost.

Anything Similar?: Honestly, it's too early in the day to say for sure but, looking at the ingredients it seems very similar to Sunnies Face (a Philippine brand of lipstick which I really want to try!) which is also made in Italy *raises eyebrow* and Pat Macgrath matte lipsticks. The interesting thing to say is that Sunnies Face is really inexpensive if you convert it to pounds (around £5) whereas one Pat Macgrath lipstick is like a 2-course meal at The Ivy. So, I guess Lisa Eldridge is a happy high medium? Anyway, since I don't have either in my collection, the most similar formula/texture I've found and own is Peripera Ink Airy Velvet Stick

End Initial thought: I really like it. Its bright, its beautiful, I will try it with other products to see how it works and get back to you later ... Oh and the motif is super chic!

Have you tried anything from Lisa Eldridge?
