Empties: April 2013

There's not as much as the last few months this time, but still a substantial amount. If your wondering why there's almost no posts these days, like I said in my favourites post I'm in the middle of exams so my priorities are to study. When I am finished with exams I go straight on holiday, but I will be back in the beginning of July and I am already looking forward to really getting back into blogging a lot more! Good luck to everyone else in the midst of their exams and to the rest of you - please realise how lucky you are not to be having exams! I am looking at picnics in the park outside my window while studying and have to say it is quite depressing. But it will all be over soon! Onto my empties!

Soap and Glory The Daily Smooth Body Butter 150ml
This is the last of the Soap and Glory body butters I got from the lovely tree-pack I bought quite a while back. It's a nice enough body butter and the smell is quite nice, nothing special (to me). The butter itself is of quite a nice and thick consistency, but sinks in quite quickly and moisturises very well. When comparing all of the three body butters by Soap and Glory I've tried the Butter Up Deluxe Smoothing Body Smoothing Cream is still my absolute favourite!

La Roche-Posay Posthelios Hydrating After-Sun Melt-in Gel 100ml
This was a very generous gift with purchase I received when I bought a La Roche-Posay sunscreen at the end of last summer. I encourage everyone to go have a look-through of their opened products, because you might find something like this one that had only two uses left! So silly, almost nothing left, yet taking up space for almost a year. Anyway, the product itself is absolutely lovely. It's so soothing which makes it amazing to use after an evening shower. I will most definitely consider buying the full-size of this sometime, maybe as an after-sun as it's intended, but just as likely to use before bed to really relax.

Clarins Huile Tonic Body Treatment Oil 100ml
Not at all to happy to have finished this. I love this so much! I've used it in the evenings after showering exclusively and this oil is wonderful in so many ways. It smells heavenly and makes your whole bathroom smell like a gorgeous spa. It makes skin so smooth and moisturised, you wake up to healthy glowing skin. In terms of the toning claims it doesn't transform your body to looking like Angelina Jolies Lara Croft, but it does help tighten up a tad. If you want to buy this for the toning properties, look elsewhere, but if your looking for a really good body oil - I definitely recommend this one!

Philip Kingsley Scalp Toner Flaky/Itchy Scalps 75ml
I bought this alongside the Elasticizer around the new year sometimes I think. While I didn't fall in love with the Elasticizer, this stuff worked wonders. I can suffer from a really itchy scalp, but this has near removed that problem completely. I've already bought the big bottle and am using it every time I wash my hair.

Kerastase Ciment Thermique Heat-activated Reconstructing Milk 125ml
I first started using this when I was about 15 I think and I've loved it since. I stopped using it for a few years when I was bleaching my hair as it was in need of protein treatments instead, such as the Redken Anti-Snap (Also amazing!). About a year ago I was looking to order another heat-protectant and remembered that I'd loved this one and wanted to see if I'd still like it after having tried many other great things. I still do. This stuff is a classic for a reason! Unless your hair is in super condition and/or you never use any heat tools on it - I highly recommend this!

Molton Brown White Mulberry Fine Liquid Hand Wash 30ml x 4
I love Molton Brown hand wash and this is no exception! You need very little at the time, it lathers up nicely and leaves hands smelling wonderful, and not dry.  The smell of this one is fresh and perfect for spring, highly recommended!

Eve Lom Rescue Mask 5ml
I got two uses out of this little sachet. First time I don't think I applied enough, this dries really quickly so it can be hard to add more on top like I tried to do the first time. Second time around I slathered this baby on as heavily as I could with the product I had left. Both times I had similar results, but slightly better the second time. But both time that result was pretty amazing! I didn't think this would impress me much, especially as it doesn't have too many great reviews on makeupalley, but wow! My skin was instantly more bright and radiant, skintone was more even and my pores, I swear, was smaller - and all of that without any tight dry feeling - superb! Might pick this up if I should ever manage to finish the clay masks I have lying around.

Molton Brown Relaxing Yuan Zhi Bath & Shower 30ml
I love this stuff, I have the full size. I think I might actually save this bottle to refill when I'm going away on holiday. The smell is truly relaxing and so I love this for evening showers. It really gets my mind ready for bed. It also is a wonderful shower gel that lathers up well and has a really soft and nurturing texture.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Astringent Lotion Micro-Exfoliant 200ml
Another product that was near the end and had been for a while. I decided to just finish this already and it took me about a week. This is fine, but I won't repurchase and I can't say I recommend it. In my personal opinion this is way too harsh. It's not absolutely horrific, but I'm happy it's gone.

I posted a review on this just before finishing it, so I won't go into too much detail as my feelings didn't change since. In short; I adore this and have already re-purchased!

Roge Cavailles Sebactiv Anti-Blemish Matifying Cream 40ml - click here for review -
This one isn't completely empty, but it's old so I feel uncomfortable putting it on my face so off it goes! I wrote a review on this about a year ago that you can read if you want to know more about it. I pretty much used it as a treatment whenever my skin got a bit on the congested side, much like I use the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo these days. I prefer the latter, yet this one is still worthy of a look if your ever in France.

Institut Esthederm Adaptsun Tanning Face Cream Normal to Strong Sun 50ml - click here for review -
Sadly I didn't get to finish this one up on time, but the texture and feel of it has changed so it needs to go. I loved this and will probably buy again at some point. From now on I am going to be really strict with my skincare and sun protection purchases as it's just such a waste, especially as my tastes in these things aren't exactly cheap either.

Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream SPF 20 For Face 50ml - click here for review -
Really loved this one too and it's such a shame that I have to throw it away. I think it's important to do these clean outs though and having to actually look at all the half empty stuff that you need to throw out in order to realise what a waste of money buying all of this at once actually is. I really think this will help me be so much better in the future, especially as the next item is also a half empty sun protection..

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 20 50ml
This one is less than a year old and since it's ment to last for 12 months according to it's own packaging it shouldn't be expired, but is. When I take some of the product out of the tube onto my hand it has small white dried up parts in it. Not something I want to smear all over my face so it needs to go! When it was newer though I used this quite a bit through winter, though 20 is a bit low of an SPF for me, these days I go for 50 or 30 at the lowest. That being said, it has a wonderful light texture that doesn't leave any kind of cast or residue. It absorbs fairly quickly and I can't feel it on my skin.

HydraQuench Cream Normal to Dry Skin 15ml
I've written about this before, I use it down my neck and sometimes on my chest at night time and it works well, nothing special. I hate the packaging. It's big to emphasize that you're getting a really generous 15ml. Problem is, 15 ml isn't even half of this tube so from the get go you're starting out having to do that annoying, and frankly painful, folding and squeezing you do when a product is near it's end. Don't know if I can be asked with another one of these samples if I ever get one, the packaging is just too annoying.

Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme 7ml
Another night time neck and chest cream. It's fine for that. Moisturises well and hasn't given me any problems of any kind. Smells pretty good as well.

Dior Instant Eye Makeup Remover 15ml
Quite a generous sample and perfect for travel. This is very nice. Efficient, gentle and doesn't leave a super oily residue that gets into my eyes and gives me blurry vision for 3 hours. That being said, it's no better than Lancome, Clarins and Chanel's similar products. Just choose whichever brand you prefer of those you'll pretty much get the same product. All lovely though!

Estee Lauder DayWear SPF 15 7ml
Another neck cream, but due to it containing SPF I use this one during the day. Smells nice like melons I think and has a good light texture. Quite refreshing, is probably a good moisturiser, but not something I'll be looking to buy. One of those ok, but nothing special products.

Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimising Serum 7ml
I've written about this one in every empties post for quite a while now, so there's not much to say. But, after finishing this right at the beginning of April, and seeing as we're now quite the way into May I've seen what the other side looks like, the one where I'm not using this. Initially my skin actually got a bit worse. Now, I am in the midst of "exam season" so contributing this to stress would be valid, but it could also be this. It has exfoliating properties apparently, read that on a blog (don't remember which one) and only when I went back to using my La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, which is a similar kind of thing, did my skin go completely back to normal. So I have decided to contribute it to this serum, which makes it a lot more impressive. However, the Effaclar Duo is 1/7 of the price, feels much more comfortable on the skin, absorbs better and gives even better results. Yeah, I'll be sticking with my Effaclar Duo.

Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator 7ml - click here for review -
I still am of the opinion that this doesn't do much for my pigmentation. A bit for the skintone, but other products I've used do it so much better. I only use these samples on days when I look like I died twice to bring some glow back through it's golden glittery particles.

Stila Glitter Eye Liner in 08 Red Purple 3ml
I got this as a gift with purchase so long ago I can't even remember and so it's going in the bin. I've almost never used it, and the times I tried to I didn't find it overly impressive. They probably don't make it anymore either.

Valentino Valentina Eau De Parfum 1,5ml x 2
I am loving this perfume for summer. It's floral times a thousand, so if you don't like too much flower in your perfume then don't even bother smelling this one. If you do like that though, you'll be in flower garden heaven! It's fresh, beautiful and gorgeously feminine! Love it!

Smashbox Photo Finish Light 30ml - click here for review -
If you've read my review you'll already know I absolutely love this. I only decided to work on finishing it up as it was so near the end anyways. I have so many primers at the moment that I'm looking to go through, but if it wasn't for that I would already have another one of these!

GOSH Long Lasting Brow Pen 1,2ml
This has dried out and so it's going. It's quite nice to fill in brows where you really don't have any. However, it's a tad fussy, the felt tip is a bit flimsy and so while I liked it well enough, I didn't love it and don't see myself buying this again.

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural in Medium Plus 10g
I used to love this product and re-purchased it several times. Last time I purchased it I was so much more tanned than my current SPF 50 loving self will ever be, and so it got put away for a while. A few months ago I decided to try it as a really natural  bronzer, and it worked wonderful as that. I've loved using it and am kind of sorry it's gone, yet happy to be finish stuff as I really want to minimise the amount of makeup I've accumulated. Will be keeping this to back to mac it!

Yves Saint Laurent Touche D'Or Golden Touch Highlighter for the face 2,5ml
This isn't empty but when I realised it must be something like almost three years since I bought it, I decided it needed to go. It was a limited edition product so I won't go into too much detail, but if they bring it back again I very well might pick another one up. It's a nice glittery highlighter I loved taking with me if I was for example going to work, but was going out straight after. Something like this in my purse along with some bright lipstick and the regular Touche Eclat made me much more party-appropriate.
